About the book: Next to Berlin's architectural landmarks, the Berliner Bear is the capital's most well-known symbol. As the Bear celebrates its 725th anniversary in 2005, the book Bärlinale pays tribute to this graphic symbol with more than 300 designs, proving that above all: Berlin is and will remain "Bearlin". Since its first appearance
in 1280, the Berliner Bear has become one of the city's most recognizable
symbols, appearing not only on many official coats of arms, but also used
as a logo and mascot by countless companies, associations, events, and
initiatives. With this book, the authors want to promote the Berliner Bear’s contribution to local identity and cultural heritage and would like to invite fellow Berliners as well as other citizens of the world to engage with this rich and multi-faceted symbol. |
